Obituary of Elizabeth Andrew Post

Mrs. Elizabeth Andrew Post, 99, of Mt. Pleasant, SC, formerly of Aiken and Long Island, NY, died Friday, March 23, 2012 at Savannah Grace Assisted Living. Services will be private and are under the direction of George Funeral Home & Cremation Center, Aiken.
A daughter of the late Jesse C. Andrew and Elizabeth Fowler Andrew, she was born in Chicago, IL and grew up in West Point, IN and Miami Beach, FL . In Florida, she swam competitively, and in 1929 was the Florida State Woman's Champion in free style. She attended Purdue University. Beginning in the 1930's, she and her family were active in the Aiken horse business. In the summers she lived in Old Brookville, NY, returning to Aiken each winter. Mrs. Post had been a co-owner of the Carousel Shop, a well known ladies store on York St. She was active in the Aiken community, and volunteered for the Red Cross, the Women's Auxiliary of the Aiken County Hospital, Meals on Wheels and St. Thaddeus Tea Room. She also was on the board of directors of the Aiken Preparatory School. With several others, she was instrumental in the founding of the Thoroughbred Hall of Fame in Aiken. The Chamber of Commerce recognized Elizabeth as the "Woman of The Year" in 1982.
In addition to her parents, she was predeceased by her husband, William Post, II.
She is survived by two sons, Frederick Post, Saluda, NC and Dr. William Post, Sullivans Island, SC; a daughter, Elizabeth Post Miller, Palm Beach, FL and a sister, Cecelia Dalcemer, Santa Barbara, CA. She is also survived by five grandchildren and two great grandchildren. Memorial donations may be directed to the Hitchcock Woods Foundation, PO Box 1702 Aiken, SC 29802.
