A community wide memorial service for Mr. Lawrence Edward ?DeDe? McKinney will be held Friday, July 8, 2005 at 7 PM at the Jackson Middle School football field, Jackson, SC, with Rev. Blue Thomas officiating. The will be no visitation held at the funeral home. Attention florists: please deliver all floral arrangements to the football field on Friday.
Mr. McKinney, 55, of Jackson, SC, died suddenly, Wednesday, morning, July 6, 2005 at University Hospital, Augusta, GA.
Born in Altapass, NC, a son of the late William G. McKinney and Augusta Biddix McKinney, he had been a resident of Jackson, SC, most of his life, where he was a Volunteer Firefighter, was very involved in Jackson Youth Baseball and Football, was a umpire, avid ?Bluff? and Braves fan, and enjoyed golfing. ?DeDe? was a self proclaimed ?Grill Sergeant?. He retired as a pipe fitter after thirty-two years of service from the Plumbers and Steamfitter Local #150. He proudly served his country in the United States Army.
He is survived by his wife, Kathy Gibson McKinney, mother, Augusta Biddix McKinney, Jackson, SC; daughters, Angie Clark, Clark Hill, SC and Chastity Hall, Jackson, SC; sons, Jason Metts, Laurens, SC, John Metts, Jackson, SC, and Justin McKinney, Jackson, SC; sisters, Catherine Carroll, Atlanta, GA and Beverly Cannon, Jackson, SC; brothers, Glenn McKinney, New Ellenton, SC and Russ McKinney, Jackson, SC; grandchildren, Cole Clark, Kyle Franklin, Cody Franklin, Corey Franklin, Keith Hall, Ryan Hall, Jonathan Metts and Jennifer Metts, sister-in-laws, Sherry Young and Susie McKinney, and his beloved yorkie, Maggie Mae. A sister, Yolanda McKinney Christian, preceded him in death.
