Mr. Brooks Webster of Cumberland Village, Aiken, SC, beloved husband of 70 years to Betty Webster, went home to his Lord on Saturday, September 22, 2012. Mr. Webster was predeceased by his parents, Ralph and Alice Webster of Palo Alto, California and his brother, Ralph Webster, of Seattle, WA.
Mr. Webster was born in Medford, Mass. He was a graduate of Bowdoin College and entered the U.S. Navy after graduation. He served as a Lt. aboard the USS Detroit, which was anchored in Pearl Harbor on December 7, 1941. After the war, Mr. Webster worked for the former Exide Storage Battery Company for 35 years, residing in San Carlos, CA, Cleveland, Ohio and Cherry Hill, NJ before retiring in 1980 to Midland Valley, Graniteville. Mr. Webster attended the First Church of Christ Scientist in Aiken.
In addition to his wife, Betty, Mr. Webster is survived by his son Pete Webster Donna of Langhorne, PA, daughter Karen Webster Seibert of Aiken, granddaughter Kim Webster Sinclair Rhett, grandson Scott Webster Laura of Aiken, and step-granddaughter Holly Seibert-Rezendes of South Dartmouth, Mass., 5 great grandsons, and nieces Susan Webster Rogers and Jacqueline Webster Patton of Seattle, WA.
While retired Mr. Webster volunteered teaching adults to read, preparing income taxes, served as President of the Aiken Seniors Golf Association, various positions for the Aiken Council on Aging, Meals on Wheels and read to the children at Byrd Elementary School for many years.
A memorial service will be held Sunday at 3:00 p.m. in room 1835 at Cumberland Village, 3335 Wise Creek Lane, Aiken, SC 29801. The family will receive friends following the service. GEORGE FUNERAL HOME & CREMATION CENTER, Aiken, is assisting the family.
The family wishes to thank the employees of Cumberland Village, Daybreak Adult Care Services, Hospice of Tri-County , especially Dana Clark, Sandra Highsmith, Regina Dukes and Christina Washington of Daybreak and Kara Flanders of Tri-County Home Healthcare. for their loving care and support.
In lieu of flowers, the family requests that donations be made to Byrd Elementary School, 1225 Welldon Way Graniteville, SC 29829.
