Obituary of William Thomas Minter

William Thomas Minter, III, 74, son of the late Mr. and Mrs. William Thomas Minter, Jr. of Griffin GA, died July 20, 2014 at his home after an extended illness. Dr. Minter was born June 8, 1940 in Griffin, GA and graduated from Griffin High School in 1958. He attended both North Georgia College and Mercer University, receiving his Bachelor of Science degree in 1962. Dr. Minter received his Doctor of Medicine degree from the Medical College of Georgia in 1966 and served an internship and his residency in Family Practice at Macon Hospital. Upon completion of his residency, he entered the United States Air Force as a Captain and was stationed at McDill Air Force Base in Tampa, FL from 1968 until 1970. Dr. Minter returned to Augusta, Georgia and completed a residency in Anesthesiology at the Medical College of Georgia. He remained there as a faculty member until moving to Aiken, SC in 1976. Dr. Minter joined the medical staff of Aiken Regional Medical Center and founded the Aiken Anesthesiology Group. He practiced medicine in Aiken until 1998 when he suffered a severe stroke. He is survived by his wife, Susan Tootle Minter; four children; Bonnie Minter, Decatur, GA, Dr. David (Rhonda) Minter, Augusta, GA, Michael (Jaimee) Minter, Shellman Bluff, GA, and Malissa (Adam) Wells, Boone, NC; nine grandchildren; Catherine and Rachel Minter, Joshua, Daniel, Samuel and Caleb Minter, Mackay and Mason Minter and Zoey Wells; a brother; Paul (Rita) Minter, Macon GA as well as nieces, nephews, grandnieces, grandnephews and loyal caregivers Donelda Young and James Lanham. He was preceded in death by caregivers Bernie Pressley, Chris Lanham and Clint Pallister. In lieu of flowers, donation may be directed to; The Friends of the Animal Shelter, PO Box 2207 Aiken, South Carolina 29802, St. John's United Methodist Church, 104 Newberry St., NW Aiken, SC 2980, or the American Stroke Foundation, 5916 Dearborn Street, Mission, KS 66202. Friends will be greeted from 5 P.M. until 7 P.M. on Wednesday, July 23, 2014, at GEORGE FUNERAL HOME, 211 Park Avenue, SW Aiken, SC 29801. A private burial service will follow.
