Mr. James L. Verenes, 62, of Aiken, passed away after a long illness on Thursday, June 20, 2013 at Aiken Regional Medical Centers. A memorial service will take place on Saturday, June 22, 2013 at 11am at First Presbyterian Church of Aiken. Interment will be private at Bethany Cemetery. Pallbearers will be Jerry Waters, Johnny Gregory, Rodney Peeples, Chris Verenes, Dick Verenes and Charles Miller. Honorary Pallbearers will be members of the Aiken County Bar. GEORGE FUNERAL HOME & CREMATION CENTER, 211 Park Ave. SW is assisting the Verenes family. A lifelong resident of Aiken, Jim was the son of Ann Major Verenes and the late Stathy James Verenes. Jim was a proud graduate of USC and the USC School of Law, from which he graduated in 1976. Jim practiced law up until the time of his death and was a member of the Aiken County Bar. He was a past member of the Aiken County School Board, the Board of Governors of The Palmetto Golf Club, Board Member of Children's Place, Helping Hands, The Gamecock Club and the USC Board of Visitors. Jim is survived by his mother, Ann Verenes, Aiken; a brother, Hugh L. Verenes, Aiken; a step-daughter, Erin (Michael) York, Aiken; a step-son, Jacob (Sandra) Smith, Coolidge, GA and three, step-grandchildren. He will also be missed by his two caregivers, Jennifer Presley and Londa Price who took such good care of him.
