A funeral mass for William Polson, Jr. will be celebrated at 10am on Monday, February 12, 2007 at St. Mary Help of Christians Catholic Church, Aiken. Interment, with military honors will follow at Calvary Cemetery, Aiken. The family will receive friends on Sunday, from 6-8pm and a wake service will take place at 6:30pm at George Funeral Home & Cremation Center, 211 Park Ave. SW Aiken. Mr. Polson, 81, of Aiken, died Wednesday, February 7, 2007 at the Medical College of Georgia, Augusta.
A son of the late William Sr. and Bertha Smith Polson, he was born in Tabor City, NC and had lived in Myrtle Beach and Florence before moving to Aiken in 1963. He proudly served his country in the United States Navy during WW II. He had been the manager of Park Ave. Lanes in Aiken and then went to work for Owens Corning Fiberglass, Aiken. He finished his career as an instrumentation specialist at Columbia Nitrogen, Augusta GA where he "retired" several times, but they kept asking him back. Mr. Polson was a communicant of St. Mary Help of Christians Catholic Church, Aiken.
He is survived by his wife of fifty seven years, Audrey Marie Dallaire Polson, Aiken; two sons, Pat Polson, Aiken and Chuck Polson, North Augusta, SC; two daughters, Joyce Bill Dedmon, Ridge Spring, SC and Candy Daniel Polson-Hart, Aiken; and a grandson that he helped raise, Shawn Sara Polson, Charleston, SC. He is also survived by eight grandchildren and five great grandchildren.
