A Memorial Service for Colonel William "Will" Everett Sommer, United States Army Retired will be held Saturday, December 31, 2205 at 11:00am, at St. Augustine of Canterbury Episcopal Church, 1630 Silver Bluff Rd. Aiken, SC with Rev. Nancy Kenney officiating. Interment will follow at Montmorenci First Baptist Church Cemetery, Old Barnwell Rd. George Funeral Homes Historic Downtown Chapel, 211 Park Ave. SW Aiken, SC is in charge of arrangements. Colonel Sommer, 78, of Montmorenci, SC died Saturday afternoon, December 24th, 2005 at the Medical College of Georgia, Augusta. Will was born in Montmorenci on June 26th, 1927. He was the son of the late William LeRoy and Rosalie Woodward Sommer. He was also predeceased by his sister Rosa Evelyn Sommer Hutto. Will graduated from The Citadel, the Military College of South Carolina, Charleston in 1956. He received his Master of Science degree in civil engineering from Tulane University in New Orleans, LA. He proudly served his Country for 27 years in the United Sates Army & Reserves, attaining the rank of Colonel. Will was also a Professional Civil Engineer with the United States Army Corps of Engineers for 34 years. He retired from the Savannah District as Chief of the Design Branch. Will was a member of the Society of Mayflower Descendants. He is survived by his loving wife of forty-eight years, Audrey Alda Alexander Sommer. He is also survived by his daughters; Johanna Germaine Sommer, Montmorenci, SC, Alda Alexandra Sommer Walters, Keith, Aiken, SC and Maj. Ellen Evelyn Sommer Clark, Grant Savannah, GA. His grandchildren are Michael Merritt Bruce, Victor John Wyszynski, IV, Kylie Sommer Clark, Scott William Clark and Glen William Clark. Honorary Pallbearers are T. Clifton Weeks, Victor Alexander, Jr., Dr. Laurens Edward Linebaugh, Jr., Dr. William Robert Gaines and Louis Meraux McNair. The family has asked that memorials for Colonel Sommer be made to The Citadel Foundation, The Citadel, 171 Moultrie St. Charleston, SC 29409
