Greta Halvorsen Estes Betty, age 81 of Aiken, SC, wife of the late Robert G. Estes, died March 1, 2008. Born January 12, 1927 in White Plains, NY, Betty was the daughter of Greta Schwartz Halvorsen and George Halvorsen. She graduated in 1945 from Scarsdale High School in Scarsdale, NY and received her R.N. in 1948 from St. Lukes Hospital School of Nursing in New York City. Before retiring to Aiken, Betty worked and lived in New York, Boston, Providence and Yardley, Pennsylvania with her husband and children. Betty was passionate about life and her family. She will be remembered as a tender caregiver, in her roles as nurse, wife, mother and friend. She joined her late husband's love of golf and was a member of the "9 Holers" and former member of the "18 Holers" at Houndslake Country Club. She was also a member of the Garden Club at Houndslake CC. Betty was a dog lover and a devoted dog walker volunteer for many years at the SPCA. She is survived by her sister Ruth Halvorsen Hughes of Carlisle, KY and five children: Nancy Judovits of Collegeville, PA, Robert G. Estes, Jr. of Boston MA, Carolyn Tabor of Santa Barbara, CA, Suzanne Matthews of Holland, PA and Amanda Krasovec of Media, PA and 14 grandchildren: Daniel Regan, Jeffrey Regan, Katlyn Mattews, Leslie Tabor, Kelly Matthews, Graham Tabor, Andrew Krasovec, Benjamin Judovits, Daniel Matthews, Emily Judovits, Jacob Krasovec, Laura Krasovec, Christopher Estes and David Estes. Her Memorial Service will be held on Thursday March 6, 2008 at 11:00am at George Funeral Home & Cremation Center 211 Park Ave. SW Aiken, SC. The family will receive friends at the funeral home the hour before the time of the service. Memorial donations may be directed to the charity of your choice.
