Obituary of Ted M. Rabun

A memorial service for Mr. Ted M. Rabun will be held Tuesday, December 27, 2005 at 2:00 PM at St. Paul Lutheran Church with DM Beth Barkau & the Rev. David Kruse officiating. Interment will be private. The family will receive friends on Monday, December 26, 2005 from 6 until 8 PM at George Funeral Home, Historic Downtown Chapel, 211 Park Ave., SW, Aiken, SC. Mr. Rabun, 75, of Aiken, SC, died suddenly Friday afternoon, December 23, 2005 at his home. He proudly served his country in the United States Air Force. He was a CPA and a full-time professor of accounting at the University of IL and Penn State University. He spent 35 years in Federal service with the GAO, Department of Agriculture Farm Credit Administration, and the GSA. He taught part-time for 22 years at American University. Upon retirement, Ted and his wife Irene came to Aiken, SC, from Laurel, MD in 1999. He was an active member of St. Paul Lutheran Church serving in Evangelism, Education, FOCUS seniors' group chaplain, and financial endeavors. He was a strong supporter of the ACTS program and served as interviewer. He was a member of AGA and AICPA as well as the local chapter of NARFE. He participated in the Academy of Life-Long Learning at USCA, was an avid photographer and greatly appreciated the many diverse cultural experiences in the unique town of Aiken. Born in Lakeland, FL, he was a son of the late Sollie W. Rabun and Maye Hargrave Rabun Owens. He is survived by his wife of fifty-four years, Irene Sims Rabun, daughters, Dr. Ellen Irene Rabun, Michael Kilgus Blacksburg, VA and Paula Lynn Woodard, Bob Rock Hill, SC; sons, Arthur Morris Rabun, Lori Charlotte, NC and Daniel Charles Rabun, Denise Arlington, VA; sister, Rosalind Neal, McCormick, SC; Frances Rabun, step-mother, McCormick, SC; and seven grandchildren. The family has asked that memorials in memory of Ted be made to Area Churches Together Serving, ACTS 340 Park Ave., SW, Aiken, SC 29801 or St. Paul Lutheran Church, 961 Trail Ridge Rd., Aiken, SC 29801.
