AIKEN, SC- CHRISTOPHER "CHRIS" MARTIN, 65, passed away Thursday, January 8, 2015. Born December 8, 1949 in Rome, New York, he was a son of the late Michael Paul Martin and Mary Elizabeth Rudd Martin. Chris obtained his Bachelor of Arts degree in Secondary Education from Hartwick College in 1971. He spent his entire career in education, both teaching and in school administration. He served the Laurens Central School District in Laurens, NY for 22 years. Chris, Jeanne and the girls moved from Morris, New York to Aiken, South Carolina in January of 1994. He retired from Silver Bluff High School after 17 years of service in 2011. Chris was a very active member of the Woodside Plantation community, where he formerly served on the board of the Property Owners Association, the Board of Governors of Woodside Plantation Country Club, and volunteered with the annual Aiken-Augusta Wounded Warrior Charity Golf Classic. He loved playing golf and the time spent with family and his many friends. Survivors include his wife of 42 years, Jeanne Rockwell Martin; two daughters, Kristen Lee Martin, of Charleston, SC and Katie Lynn Martin, of Clifton, NJ; a sister, Antoinette Peron, Litchfield Park, AZ; a brother, Michael S. Martin (Mary Catherine), Kiawah Island, SC; and several nieces, nephews and great-nieces and great-nephews, whom he loved dearly. A memorial service will be held 11 AM Monday, January 12, 2015 at St. Thaddeus Episcopal Church. The Father Grant Wiseman officiating. Friends may call this Sunday afternoon from 3 until 6 PM at George's Funeral Home.
