And, I was honored to have been asked to be a part of your wedding to my dear friend Jeanne. I will always be grateful for the quality time we all spent together during the 2013 and 2014 Masters Tournament. I wish we could have been able to extend that tradition. One of my favorite memories of Mr Martin came from my softmore year. I had volunteered at Helping Hands with Key Club and got attached to a 2 year old little boy that day. I stayed after the carnival and played with Isaiah until it was time for bed. When I said goodnye to him he had these big tears in his eyes and it broke my heart. I gave him my school badge and promised I'd be back to see him tomorrow. The next morning in homeroom I was told to go to the office for a badge violation/temp badge. I remember passing Mr Martin's office and hearing him call out "Robbie Robinson...." I came back to his door and stuck my head in and he asked "just where are you going?" I told him I didnt have my badge. He smiled and said "I know"...then he reached out his hand and handed me $10 and told me to go get a new badge. I was shocked! He said Helping Hands had called that morning and told him what I had done the day before. He told me he was proud of me and that I could let Isaiah hold on to my badge if ot means that much to him. I dont know that Mr Martin ever knew how much this meant to me! He was absolutely one of the best influences/teachers/mentors/counselors/ friends that many of us could have ever asked for. His legacy will stretch across generations and I will forever be greatful for the impact he had on my young life during my time at Silver Bluff. We love you Mr Martin!

It is on more than one occasion I have talked about Mr. Martin with my children, when they are discussing their favorite teachers, since he was one of mine. I find myself reminiscing about his classroom instruction at Laurens, which included humor and creativity, keeping students interested in the subject matter. It was more than his teaching though, it was the way he cared about the students and enjoyed what he did, along with his great laugh, which I can still hear if I think about it. It is with great sadness to learn he was taken from this earth way too soon. My heartfelt sympathy goes out to Mrs. Martin, his children, and family. Know that he was an awesome teacher and person and made the difference in the lives of so many, a testimony many never achieve no matter how long they live. Cindy LaPolt Roberts

Mrs Martin and children, It was just the other day I was telling my sister how much I liked Mr. Martin and now I hear this. I can not imagine your grief as I am heartbroken. There is much written here by his former students about his professional talents, all of which are true. However, I was also in Mr Martin's class but in my senior year I had study hall when he had a free period and that whole year I would go to his room and hang out with him. My point is, I hardly knew the man but I loved him. Saying that, my heart truly goes out to his family who obviously knew him best and is going through an unimaginable time of grief. I am so sorry for you. Remember, Shakespeare ate Bacon(Mr. Martin had this on his bulletin board and had to explain it to me)! I will never forget you Mr. Martin.

I remember when I got accepted to Hartwick College and his excitement that I would be attending his alma mater. After many years in business management, I went back to college and earned my Masters in Early Childhood Education. I've enjoyed teaching 3rd grade and kindergarten these past 16 years. I often wondered what he would have thought of that! I am so sad that I didn't reach out and let him know how much I appreciated him, and to thank him for all his dedication to his students. Mr. Martin truly touched many lives at Silver Bluff high school. He was like no other person or staff there. He didn't think of it as a job he thought of it as if it was a start to a future for us. Walking thru the hallways he was there, got in trouble he was there, needed his advice he was there, when u didn't need his advice he gave it anyways lol. Not one student cannot say they did not have NY interaction with Mr. Martin, because we all loved him. He only wanted to be able to hand every single student that walked thru Silver Bluffs door a high school diploma and shake their hand. The good lord truly blessed him to bless others and that he did. Fly high Mr. Martin because we all know you deserve to have the best seat in the world, looking down on us because I know you will because I still hear your voice today. My heart and prayers are with the Martin family, but please celebrate his life because that's what he was full of.

I send my thoughts and prayers to Mr. Martin's family during this time. How sad I am to hear of his passing.
I want you to know what a blessing Mr. Martin was to me as a child. His classroom was one of structure and high expectations that gave me the opportunity to grow as a person. He convinced me that what he expected me to do in the classroom had value and purpose. It did. As just today, I sat with a group of students explaining nouns and verbs in my own classroom. Perhaps tomorrow I will wear loafers and we will diagram a sentence in his memory. Mr. Martin's legacy of 'discipline' and 'learning' and 'heart' has shaped me as a teacher and I certainly hope that will be passed along to my students in all that I do. A part of him will live in each of the lives that he touched and impacted.
I still have his beautifully penned note from 7th grade congratulating me on a performance. Somehow, despite the fact that many, many students participated, he made me feel noticed and appreciated. He made me feel like I mattered. There is no more important gift at 12 years old.

Mr. Martin was a great teacher! He was thoughtful, caring, and had high expectations. I still remember the grammar lessons from his classes and became a teacher and principal because of the lessons he modeled. Thank you for making a difference in the lives of your students Mr. Martin. You will be missed - but what you taught us all lives on. Rest in peace.

I will miss you Chris. Your love for the children you served and your understanding of their needs will always be remembered by those children. Your friendship was cherished and I think of you when I remember what my mother told me about true friendship and its longevity. You will always be close to my heart and in my mind.

Praying for the family. Mr. Martin was a great person and always had a great attitude. One of the highlights of going to Silver Bluff was seeing Mr. Martin in the halls talking to the students. He always had something hilarious to say. You will be missed by many.

Mr. Martin was a man of excellence, and was great at what he did. His passion for teaching was phenomenal. Very genuine, Mr. Martin could keep anybody in order. No matter how big or bad you thought you were, Mr. Martin had some encouraging words for you. He seemed so fearless, but his dedication so sweet. I'll never forget how he would call my name " Shalana " ( in his weird accent ) and say " come here, what's bothering you ? " " do you need to talk ? " Or when I would be referred to his office for misbehavin , he would dismiss my write up and say " now I'm letting you off with a warning, I don't want to see you here again " ( several times a week ). A fantastic man and teacher, I know he's leaving behind a great legacy. He touched so many hearts including mine. Rest in paradise Mr. Martin, you will truly be remembered.
