Obituary of Jimmy Lee Groomes Sr.

Jimmy Lee Groomes Sr., beloved husband, father, grandfather, and brother, passed away on Sunday, August 11th, 2024, at the age of 72 at the Medical College of Georgia. 

He was born and raised in Aiken, SC on Saturday, March 8th, 1952, a son of the late Clyde E. & Eula Lee Johnson Groomes.  Jimmy served his country in the Army and worked as a Planner for Kimberly Clark. He will be deeply missed by all who knew and loved him.

Jimmy is survived by his wife. Barbara Ann Jones Groomes,  his son and daughter-in-law, Jimmie Lee "Jamie" & April Groomes, Jr. of Grovetown, GA; his daughters and son-in-law, Marsha Deanne "Dee" Groomes of Aiken and Melissa Renea and Paul Jury of North Augusta, SC; his grandchildren, Brittany Groomes, Kevin Groomes, Carli Groomes, Daniel Smith, Austin Smith, Laurel Williams, Carmen Carder, Cameron Jury; his great-grandchildren, Charlie Carter & Oliver Carter; and his brothers, Ernest Groomes of Batesburg, William Ted "Red" Groomes and Marvin Groomes, both of Aiken.

In addition to his parents, he was preceded in death by his brother, Edward Groomes.

Funeral services will be held at The Historic George Funeral Home Downtown Chapel, Aiken, SC on Wednesday, August 14th, 2024, at 6:00pm. 

Visitation will take place one hour prior to the service at The Historic George Funeral Home & Cremation Center, 211 Park Ave SW, Aiken, SC 29801 (803) 649-6234.
