Obituary of James Robert Bowes

Mr. James Robert "Jimmie" Bowes, 73, beloved husband of Dorothy Ellen Anson Bowes passed away Wednesday morning, April 10, 2024, at Aiken Regional Medical Center following a short illness. 

Jimmie was born on March 3rd, 1951, in Queens, NY to Edward Francis Bowes and Mary Ellen Roche Bowes. Jimmie was a District Manager at Sears Roebuck and dedicated member of the Elks Lodge in Massapequa, NY and Hibernian Lodge in Islip, NY. He was a parishioner at St. Mary Help of Christians Catholic Church. Jimmie was a true Irishman at heart. He was the life of the party. He loved being in the company of others and never met a stranger. He would lighten up any room that he was in. He was passionate about golf, traveling but his most treasured times were those when he was simply able to spend time with his precious wife whom he adored. 

In addition to his wife, Mr. Bowes is survived by 2 sisters and brothers-in-law, Mary Jo (Ralph) Crino of Aiken & Kathleen (John) White of Clover, SC, a sister-in-law, Amelia Bowes of Brooklyn, NY. 3 sisters and 2 brothers-in-law on his wife's side of the family, Mary (Thomas) Kaufman of Aiken & Catherine Britt of Merrick, NY; Patricia (Laszlo) Toth of Poughkeepsie, NY; He is also survived by numerous nieces, nephews, grandnieces, and grandnephews.

In addition to his parents, Mr. Bowes was preceded in death by a sister, Geraldine Bowes; a brother, Edward Bowes; and a sister-in-law, Barbara Anson.

A Funeral Mass will be celebrated on Friday, April 19, 2024, at 11:00am at The Historic St. Mary Help of Christians Catholic Church, 125 Park Ave SE, Aiken, SC, 29801 with the Very Rev. Richard Wilson as celebrant. 

Final Rites and Commendations will be held at Calvary Cemetery, 1255 University Lane, Aiken, SC 29801 at 11:00am on Monday, April 22, 2024.

The family will receive friends on Thursday, April 18, 2024, from 5:00pm until 6:30pm at The Historic George Funeral Home & Cremation Center, 211 Park Ave SW, Aiken, SC 29801 (803) 649-6234. A prayer service will be held Thursday evening at 6:30 in the George Funeral Home Historic Downtown Chapel.
