I have so many wonderful memories of Aunt Mary, many from the Catskills.
- I was the flower girl for Aunt Mary and Uncle Don's wedding. It was such a thrill and Aunt Mary was the most beautiful bride! That whole day was filled with magic, especially through the eyes of a 9 year old. To this day we still talk about Grandma Maben's fancy pink marshmallow hat.
- Aunt Mary had just gotten a new car, it may have been her first after college? It was red and it was a convertible! I was a pre-teen and happened to be visiting grandma and gramps. She offered to take me for a ride in it and I was BEYOND thrilled to have a ride in a convertible. A few miles up the road, I did something (can't remember what, maybe something with the doorhandle?) and when Aunt Mary reached over to fix it, we drove right into a big ditch. She was crying, I was crying... we were fine, but her brand new car was not.
- When my dad turned 80 we had a party at our cabin in the Catskills. Although it was not easy for her, Aunt Mary made the trip up to celebrate. This meant so much to my dad and it was the last time that dad, Aunt Mary and Uncle Charlie would be together. I think she knew it would be her last time going "home" to the Catskills. We rented a big house and had a wonderful time. I loved listening to her reminiscing about the old days in Windham. There may have been some wine consumed, and by the end of the first evening we were quite surprised to learn firsthand what an expert "Cards Against Humanity" player she was. WHAT? Our prim and proper Aunt Mary beat us all soundly!
Wonderful memories of a wonderful human being.
love you and miss you Aunt Mary
