Karen Lynne Thorsen passed away on Nov 8, 2023 after battling cancer for 8 months. Karen was born on April 20, 1964 in Illinois. She is survived by her spouse, Mary Elizabeth Belk. Her parents, Ernest and Linda Thorsen preceded her in death.

Karen grew up in Illinois, Arizona, and California. She graduated from Gilroy High School in Gilroy, CA in 1982.  Karen worked as a nursing aid at a residential facility for individuals suffering from traumatic brain injuries for 11 years, and then later entered into the world of software development. Karen was a talented Quality Assurance Analyst, testing software and assisting developers with “fixing bugs” found in the software. She worked in Silicon Valley in San Jose, CA for several years, and was employed by EBay in the late 1990’s /early 2000’s. After leaving EBay, Karen took a break from working and moved to Burlington, VT with her dearest friend in the world, Anabel, for a relaxing year, and then they moved to Charlotte, NC together. Karen moved to Aiken, SC to live with her spouse in 2010 and remained in Aiken until her death. She was proudly employed by Sparq (formerly known as Rural Sourcing, Inc.) in Augusta, GA as a Senior QA Analyst for over 10 years and loved her job, coworkers, and the company. Karen was a gifted musician and played trumpet, French horn, and guitar during her lifetime. She had a beautiful singing voice and performed in venues with her guitar in CA for several years. She was also heavily involved in theatre and performed with the Gilroy Community Theater Group while in CA. Karen was a strong woman of Faith and loved God and Jesus. She was kind and loving and very well liked by all who knew her.  She will be greatly missed but her spirit and memory lives on.
