Obituary of Eleanor B. Whisnant
Please share a memory of Eleanor to include in a keepsake book for family and friends.
Eleanor “Ellie” B. Whisnant, 69, entered into eternal rest surrounded by her loving family on March 22, 2023. Originally from Aiken, she was the daughter of the late James Burness and Mildred Creech Boatwright. She was proudly married to her dedicated husband Mickey aka “Mick” for 51 years. She graduated from Aiken High School in 1971, and from the University of South Carolina - Aiken in 1975, with a degree in Nursing.
Upon graduating from nursing school she served the South Carolina and Georgia communities by working from the 1970s to 2008, specializing in Cardiac, NeuroICU, and Advanced Critical Care Nursing as well as IV therapy coordination before retiring early.
Armed with intellect, quick wit, and humor, Ellie was an avid sports lover. She cheered on her Gamecocks, Atlanta Braves, Augusta Lynx and Colorado Avalanche teams. She enjoyed traveling with her family, gardening, and stained glass work. She was a devoted wife, mother, and grandmother that truly loved her family. She was a Girl Scout leader, aka “Beetlejuice”, a band mom, and the loudest spectator at any of her kids’ sporting events. She enjoyed cooking, baking, and hosting holiday and family events, and cherished lifelong memories. She was a dedicated member of the CARE team at Memorial Baptist Church.
She is survived by her husband, Mickey; children, Amanda, Tim (Lindsay), Laura; grandchildren, Gabby, Alex, and Lilly, and fur baby, Squeaky.
She and her homemade pound cake will be deeply missed.
We would like to express our sincere thanks to the numerous medical professionals that assisted with her care while battling and then overcoming Stage 3 Endometrial Cancer, as well as the Aiken County EMS and Couchton Fire & Rescue for their service and swift care for our mother.
As she would always say, “Nurses don’t die, we just wear out”.
