Please share a memory of Dean to include in a keepsake book for family and friends.

AIKEN, SC - Dean Edward Scott, 90, husband of Carol Raney Scott, passed away peacefully March 2, 2023 surrounded by his family.

Born June 21, 1932 in Youngstown, Ohio, he was the son of the late Ralph J. Scott and Josephine Landis Scott. He graduated from Vienna High School and, after a year in college, enlisted in the army and was sent to Korea during the Korean War. Later he earned an Electrical Engineering degree at Youngstown State University. While living in Warren, Ohio, he enjoyed raising a family, camping, square dancing, and being an active member of the Howland Community Church. He had a long career with Packard Electric, a division of General Motors and retired in 1992.

In 1994, Dean and Carol moved to Aiken, South Carolina to pursue an active retirement. Residing in the Kalmia Landing retirement community, one of his most rewarding contributions was being the Social Committee Chairman for 18 years. In the Aiken community he volunteered in many places, such as the library, the hospital, and the Savannah River archeology site. Dean and Carol loved to travel and drove across the country many times, visiting National Parks, historical places, and small towns. It was a treasured experience to take in the beauty of the United States. Additionally, they enjoyed their excursions to Europe, primarily as church youth group advisors.

He was preceded in death by his parents and his brother Ralph Dale.

He will be lovingly remembered by his wife of 66 years; his daughters, Diane Derico (Dan) and Karen Scott; his sons, Gary Scott (Stacia) and Doug Scott (Melissa); his brother Don Scott (Jan); his 6 grandchildren; and 6 great-grandchildren.

Memorials may be made in Dean’s memory to First Presbyterian Church of Aiken or Crescent Hospice of Aiken.

Family will have a private service.

The Historic George Funeral Home & Cremation Center, 211 Park Ave., SW, Aiken, SC 29801 (803.649.6234), has charge of arrangements.
