My friend, my mentor, my boss --- My years at the synod with Jim were wonderful, educational, and a joy. (and my mom liked him better than me because she gave him her painting that I wanted LOL) I will miss our phone conversations since he retired. My sympathies to the family.

With gratitude for the life and memories of Bishop Jim Bennett who ordained me in January 1999 at Gethsemane Lutheran Church, Austin, preached two sermons at the Victory Festival at St. Andrew's Lutheran Church, Weesatche, in August 1999, and rode a Longhorn steer.

Dear Bennett family, We're so sorry for your loss. Pastor Bennett was so special as a man and a pastor. We were lucky to have him at St. Martins as a wonderful preacher and teacher. I remember being a bit selfishly disappointed to see him go when he became Bishop but of course he went where God called. Our hearts are heavy with you but we rejoice knowing he is with our loving Heavenly Father and reunited with Char. Much love, Glen and Carol Bockhorn

Jim was a kind and thoughtful man and a blessing in our lives. He and Char were dear neighbors and friends who will be missed. Jim made our section of the neighborhood into a community through his thoughtful interactions. Additionally, Jim and Char livened any party they attended. Pictured Jim and Char at our Roaring 20’s costume party.
Lovingly,
Doug and Susan Edwards

We really enjoyed knowing Rev. Dr. Jim Bennett. He was an inspiration wherever he went and preached--St. Paul Lutheran or St. James Lutheran. And his personality was so much fun. We especially like that he was his own person, not trying to be someone who everyone thought he should be because he was a minister. He was so much fun to be around, because he wasn't one bit pretentious. Our condolences go out to the family.
