Obituary of Dr. Melvyn Lawrence Haas

AIKEN, SC – Dr. Melvyn Lawrence Haas, age 82, died August 27, 2022.

Dr. Haas was born March 16, 1940, in New York, New York to the late Adolph and Manya Haas. He received his undergraduate degree from Cornell University and M.D. from the NYU Grossman School of Medicine in 1965. He moved to Aiken, SC in 1972 and practiced Neurology for over fifty years. He was a faculty member at Augusta University and was affiliated with Aiken Regional Medical Center. He was dedicated to his many patients. Dr. Haas was an avid equestrian and former founding Master of Fox Hounds with Whiskey Road Fox Hounds. He was a devoted husband, father, grandfather, and brother.

Dr. Haas is survived by his wife, Joyce Haas; two daughters, Anna Haas Bauman (Joel) and Sara Haas (Stewart Skiles); two stepdaughters, Samantha Siegfried and Melanie Clinch; five grandchildren, Austin, Colin, Eli, Skylar, and Aiden; one sister, Sandy Silverstein (Marv); and a brother, David Haas (Amparo).

Graveside services will be held at 10:00 a.m., Tuesday, August 30, 2022, at Sons of Israel Cemetery (corner of Laurens & Hampton Ave – enter through Bethany Cemetery). Rabbi Zalman Fischer will officiate.

In lieu of flowers, memorial donations may be directed to the Medical College of Georgia Foundation at Augusta University, 720 St. Sebastian Way Suite 150, Augusta, GA 30901, Congregation of Adath Yeshurun Synagogue, 154 Greenville St., NW, Aiken, SC 29801, or Chabad of Augusta, 3924 Old Furys Ferry Rd, Martinez, GA 30907.
