I first met Dr. Haas back in 1990, when my one year old special needs child moved back to Aiken. i was at first a little leary of his bedside manner, very blunt and to the point about my sons condition. i remember leaving his office in tears once from his demeanor, but i soon realized what a great Dr he was and continued with his services for my son. That was 32 years ago and many appointments. He was the only Dr who had the knowledge of how to treat my son with his many disabilities that we were facing. He would always end our visits by telling me ' if he gets into any trouble, just call me' after 32 years of seeing the same Dr, i felt there was a special place in my heart for this man because of the way he handled this difficult case,my sons seizure disorder, i didnt know of his passing until September 21 the last appointment. When i was informed of his passing, there again i left his office in tears and couldn't even speak. Rest in peace Dr. Haas you will be greatly missed. my condolences to his dear family. He will always remain in our hearts.

I was a patient of Dr Haas. I first met him in 2017 after moving from Hawaii. I had a huge chip on my shoulder and my husband had a bigger one when it came to neurologists.i remember him sternly telling my husband to be quiet and to stand in the corner while he spoke to his patient. I had never seen my husband comply so quickly. We had a wonderful relationship after that. I remember failing a walking test in his office and he blamed my silly shoes that I got in Spain...I told him the shoes stay. I would change his calendar in his office so he knew it was me. We uses to battle over the word fall. In his typical manner he looked at me and said "an unscheduled meeting with the ground." And I said "well if you're going to put like that then yes."
He always made me chuckle. He was such a curmudgeon and I enjoyed the banter. I truly enjoyed his intellect and wisdom. I will miss him terribly.
Please accept my deepest condolences for your loss. He will be sorely missed by me and so many others. May you rest in peace Doc.

I wanted to send my condolences to Dr. Haas' family and friends. Dr. Haas became my doctor when I was 14 years old and for the past 37 years he has been the best and most kind doctor I have ever known and has taken such good care of me. I saw him in July and was surprised and saddened to hear of his passing. He was such a great doctor and I will miss having him for my doctor. Rest in peace.

Moma went with me to my first appt and introduced me to Dr. Haas in 1979, "This is the wonderful Dr. Haas, good doctor, and a good-hearted man, with straight forward bed-side manners". How true through-out the next 35 years as a patient of his. a wonderful man. Heartfelt sympathy. Glinda

Dr. Haas was a caring, honest, and straightforward doctor for my husband and me. His years of experience found led to diagnoses other doctors missed. We appreciated his compassionate care. Aiken has lost a great resource. Prayers with your family.

Doctor Haas once helped me with a case of generalized muscle fasciculations. I once accosted him in the hospital parking lot with my complaint. He listened. He said it sounds like a benign fasciculation syndrome but you should come by the office for an EMG. After a complete neuro exam we did that exam, which turned out OK. He will always have my thanks for his thoroughness and kindness. Joe Cunningham

What an incredible loss to his wife girls and brother. I have known Mel since 1991 as a colleague patient and friend. He was hands down the best neurologist in the CSRA. We collaborated on many patients and I respected his clinical acumen greatly. His dry sense of humor and love for family and friends where always self-evident. May God be with you during this time of grief and celebration. Dan Smith

Dr. Haas has been an important part of our lives for the past 42 years, since diagnosing and treating our 17 yr. old daughter, Judy, with a brain tumor. He was always a great support to us through the years and always showed concern for our family. Judy was honored to meet his wife and have lunch with them when she visited Aiken last year. It is a special memory for her. Our family will always have kind thoughts of him and how special he was to our family.

I’m saddened by the sudden passing of my brother-in-law Mel Haas. He loved his family, horses, and dogs. He was always ready with a great Fox Hunting story. Known to be a stern task master in his job, Mel was always respected for his abilities. He had a dry sense of humor, expressed by a hat he wore that said “I Am Smiling”. He was there for every friend injured while riding and would extend his care and concern to others in time of need. It gave me great comfort to hear from others how much he loved my sister and how happy she made him. Devoted to his religion, his family his calling, he was a good man and will be missed.

I have two great memories of Mel.Once he fell off ,gave his head a good crack and asked me to marry him obviously severely concussed.
The other is how I would step all over his poor feet trying to dance with him at multiple hunt balls.God speed Mel.We had great times with you.
