Obituary of John Felch Twombly

Mr. John Twombly, 85, husband of Eloise Twombly, died Sunday afternoon at Aiken Regional Medical Centers. Funeral services will be held at 10:30 am, Wednesday, December 10, 2003 at George Funeral Homes, Historic Downtown chapel with the Rev. Martha Ebel officiating. Visitation will be held this afternoon from 4-5 pm. Burial will be held in Felchville VT, under the direction of Knight Funeral Home. Mr. Twombly was born in Winchester, MA, to the late Elmer J. and Wilhemina Twombly. He moved to Aiken in 1952 from Oak Ridge, TN. Mr. Twombly served his country in the Army Signal Corps during WW ll, mainly in the China-Burma-India Army headquarters in India. He worked for Dupont at the Savannah River Plant in Aiken before retiring in 1978. Mr. Twombly was a Co-founder and President of the Unitarian Fellowship in Aiken, a past President of the Friends of the Library, an active organizer of the Republican Party in Aiken County, a member of the Retarded Children's Association, on the board of the Community Concert Association, and a member of the Alliance Francaise in Aiken. Survivors include his wife Eloise, daughters Katherine Twombly, Sherman Oaks CA, Barbara Twombly-Herrick, Macungie PA, brothers Arthur Twombly, Madison CT, William Twombly, Winchester MA, sisters, Dorothy Twombly, Woburn MA, Alice Marion, Louisville KY, and two grandchildren. Memorials may be made to the Unitarian Universalist Church Building Fund, P.O. Box 2231, Aiken SC 29802 or to the Alzheimer's Association, P.O. Box 3156, Aiken, SC 29802.
