Obituary of Richard William Hokans

     Richard William Hokans, age 66, passed away Friday, October 29, 2021.

     Richard was born March 1, 1955 in Worcester, Mass. to the late Henry and Avis Hokans. He had made Aiken, SC his home for the past nineteen years. He was a big hockey player from a young age and attended Northeastern University on a sports scholarship. He was also an avid golfer and member of Woodside Country Club. Richard was a trained musician since the age of six through the Royal Church School of Music Curriculum at All Saints Episcopal Church in Worcester, MA. He was the founder and director of the professional a cappella group, Goliard based in central Massachusetts. He most recently was a tenor section leader at Saint Paul’s Church in Augusta, GA.

     Richard is survived by his wife of thirty-seven years, Carol Hokans; a sister, Rebecca Nanof (Peter) of Westborough, Mass.; a nephew, Phillip Nanof; and a niece, Jillian Nanof.

     A Celebration of Life reception will be held Monday, November 1, 2021 from 5:00 p.m. until 7:00 p.m. at George Funeral Home.

     In lieu of flowers, memorial contributions may be directed to Friends of the Animal Shelter (FOTAS) or the Aiken County Animal Shelter.
