Father Hepner was always smiling and in turn would have you smiling. He helped you understand and how to cope with the troubles of this life. He will be missed.

Fr. Hepner,
Was loved by many at Holy Trinity Church where he was my pastor for over 20 years. He was progressive in letting Josephine Jendrisak, Joan McGinty, myself and a crew of dancers perform Liturgical dance at special masses and ceremonies.
We would perform motions and movements to the, "The Our Father, " " Ave Maria'" Thanksgiving Mass, The stations of the cross and Easter Vigil. He would give the most wonderful and inspiring Homilies.
Heaven is being blessed today with his presence and he is now joining his best friend and colleague of many years Josephine. Together I am sure that Heaven will be shining a little brighter today with both of them up there.
They blessed our parish for many years along with Joan McGinty and now the Earth is suffering a great loss without the 2 of them not here.
My condolences to Joan and any other grieving friends and family members.

Father Ernie was the pastor of Our Lady of Mt. Carmel many years ago in Wickliffe, Ohio, the parish where I grew up and went to parochial school. He became pastor while I was away in graduate school, but I got to hear his homilies whenever I came home. I learned later that he had been a professor at Borromeo Seminary in Cleveland before being assigned to OLMC. So, it was a pleasant and unexpected surprise to see him again in Aiken, many years later, when he assumed temporary parish administrator responsibilities at St. Mary’s shortly after I moved (and he “retired”) here. Fr. Ernie’s homilies always began with a joke, usually self-deprecating, and then a quick prayer, followed by his intended message. No notes, seemingly completely off the cuff, but obviously well planned and on the mark. I will miss those corny jokes and thought-provoking homilies. Rest in peace, Father Ernie!

My wife and I had the honor of knowing Father Hepner from St Mary's Help of Christians in Aiken. I also had the honor of being an Altar Server at Mass with him a couple of times. Father Ernie always had a smile and a joke ready to tell. I used to tell him that he was the hardest working RETIRED Priest that I ever knew.
I asked him one day when was he planning on retiring. He said he did not have any plans to retire because he was enjoying what he was doing. He said as a Retired Priest he was really enjoying himself because he could now perform all of the Sacraments and his other Priestly functions without worrying about the administrative paperwork.
Father Ernie spent his life enjoying doing God's work. We look forward to catching up with Father Ernie in Heaven and hearing his latest jokes and seeing his smile.
