Obituary of Janet Grace Williams Bransome

AIKEN, SC – Janet Grace Williams Bransome died Monday, March 30, 2020 at University Hospital in Augusta, GA, following a brief illness.

Mrs. Bransome was born in Red Bank, NJ to the late Walter Williams and the late Grace Crowley Williams. She graduated from the University of Vermont and spent her career in a variety of occupations.  She was head of American Airlines Flight School, worked for Armaco Oil, owned a real estate business in Massachusetts, as well as the French restaurant La Martingale in downtown Aiken, and The Downtown Antique Mall on Broad St. in Augusta, Ga. She traveled extensively internationally.

Mrs. Bransome had made Aiken, SC her home for over fifty years. She was married to the late Dr. Edwin D. Bransome Jr, a Yale and Harvard graduate and Section Chief of the Endocrinology Department at The Medical College of Georgia. She was a member of The NY Social Registry, The Green Boundary Club in Aiken, SC, Sea Pines Country Club on Hilton Head Island, SC, The Country Club in Brookline, Mass., and the Mid Ocean Club in Bermuda. Mrs. Bransome enjoyed a full array of activities to include horses, croquet and backgammon tournaments at The Green Boundary, member of The Aiken Food and Wine Society, and golf at Palmetto Golf Club where she was a long-time member.  Mrs. Bransome also enjoyed spending time at her home on Hilton Head Island with family and rescuing Grey Hounds.

In addition to her parents, Mrs. Bransome was preceded in death by her husband of fifty-six years, Dr. Edwin D. Bransome Jr.

Survivors include two children, April Bransome-Gorton (Ronald A. Gorton III) and Edwin D. Bransome III; two grandchildren, Grace Jessica Gorton and Grayson Edwin Gorton.
