Scott Hunter taught other community journalists in the state, even though it was with very few words. He certainly did our profession proud.

I am very sorry to hear this but know Mr. Hunter led a full and admirable life. He was one of the most respected citizens of Aiken County. I enjoyed working with him when I was employed with the local school district. He was always a cheerleader for children and education, K-12 to college. My sympathies to his daughter and his two lil fur babies. Wow! What a journalism pioneer for Aiken!

I am sad to learn of the death of Scott Hunter. He and I go way back to what might be called "before the day." As editors of daily newspapers in the much-different era of the 1970s and '80s, Scott and I conferred and shared in accomplishments and challenges. His counsel then and beyond was always as appreciated as it was sound. We saw each other infrequently but always enjoyed getting together at SCPA events and sharing ideas -- and "war stories." He will be remembered as a stalwart of S.C. journalism. As the daily mission goes on, I will miss him.

I thought no one could fill Sam Cothran's shoes but I was wrong. Aiken has lost a good person who worked for decades to make it a better place. He is now reunited with his beloved wife. My prayers to his daughter and family as they celebrate a life well lived. God's Peace.

I can't express my sorrow at losing Scott today. I know he distinguished himself in his carreer and his community, but he was just my wonderful brother-in-law. I will miss him tremendously left only with the memories of the outstanding time we all had together as a family. Rest in peace my dear brother.

I met Scott shortly after I moved to Aiken in 1990. He has been one of the kindest and most humble human beings I’ve ever had the privilege of knowing. My husband (Jim) and I worked with his wife, Lois, and I will never forget the beautiful eulogy he gave at her service.
Our sincere condolences and prayers go out to his daughter and family.

Saddened to hear of Scott's death. As executive editor of the Aiken Standard, I had the privilege of hiring Scott for our sports department. He did a magnificent job covering our local sports and continued that journalism tradition until his retirement.
