Funeral services for Mr. Lavearn ? Bernie? Akins will be held on Wednesday, November 30, 2005 at 1PM at St. Paul United Methodist Church, New Ellenton with Rev. Brian Gilmer officiating. Interment will follow in the church cemetery. The family will receive friends Tuesday, November 29, 2005 from 6 until 8 PM at George Funeral Homes, Southside Chapel, 3175 Whiskey Road. Born to the late Horace and Beatrice Nessmith Akins of Bulloch County, Bernie moved to Aiken in 1952 from Bulloch County, GA. As a member of St. Paul United Methodist Church he served as a Sunday school teacher for forty years. He proudly served his country in World War II in the army. Bernie was retired from E.I.Du Pont. at the Savannah River Plant after thirty three years as a production operator. He is predeceased by his brothers, Leo Dale Akins, Dedrick Akins, Ben Akins, and Leffler Akins. He is survived by his wife, Mildred Williford Akins, son, Larry Akins, New Ellenton, daughters, Ann Temple, Jackson, Kay Pete Fuller, St. Marys, GA, Gail Herb Ferguson, New Ellenton, brother, Ronald Akins, Belcher, MA, sisters Christine Birley, East Moline, IL, Jonnie Wynn, New Ellenton, Sally Ann Deal, Statesboro, GA, Barbara McNure, Metter, GA, Beatrice Kay Bennett, Houston, TX, grandchildren, Christy Fuller, Barry Fuller, Jennifer Montgomery, Herbie Ferguson, Amanda Hall, Dylan Akins, Austin Akins, Wendy Stone, Zack Temple, Jennifer Perry, seven great grandchildren and many nieces and nephews.
