Your mom was an AMAZING women! I was blessed to have her in the 3rd.gr. & even though I didn't like school she made me love to come just so I could hear her tales! One of my favorite times was when she promise the class if we all made 100's on a test she would fly out the window! That day came.I remember her going to the window opening it up start to climb out & all of sudden she got back in quick & said there were bees out there & she couldn't do it,but instead she gave us & extra recess! That worked.I had told my kids many of the stories & how she was my favorite teacher ever. One of my girls had her at East Aiken for GT & I was so excited that she was going to get to enjoy your mom like I had.I saw her in Aug.at Food Lion & she knew me right away.We hugged she still had her sweet smile,& loving spirit, she truly was an awesome women & has left a legacy behind. She will always be with us in our hearts & memories.I'm so grateful that I had the privilege to have had her in my life! Love,

Mrs. Marx was the first adult I met who clearly loved children. That love helped me survive to adulthood. Now I am a teacher myself, for 33 years so far, and use her as a model for the love I show for my students. She will be missed but never forgotten.

To Bill, Marilyn, Brian and Chris – My children and I will always look with fondness on the times we spent with Gloria and Ed. We know they are together in peace enjoying each other’s company again. Truly an exceptional mother and teacher, we only experienced just a small part of the interaction between your mom and dad, with Gloria clearly in charge -- their relationship, the camaraderie, the story telling, Gloria was the best!, the weekly crossword puzzles. But it was enough for us to understand just how unique Gloria was and to create memories that we’ll take with us forever. We are thinking of you all in your time of sorrow. With love and prayers,

Mrs. Marx was my favorite teacher! I was fortunate enough to have her in both 2nd and 3rd grade, as she moved up to 3rd grade the year I did. I was overjoyed!
Thanks to her, learning was and always has been a joy... she made the most mundane tasks seem exciting, and I will never forget her dressing up like a witch on Halloween and nearly scaring us to death every year!
I can still remember nearly 35 years later her handwriting, her amazingly candid discussions, her respect for her students, her laughter, her twinkling smile. She epitomized everything a teacher should be, and not a day goes by that I don't think of her.
Heaven is now blessed to have an amazing person, and my thoughts and prayers go to the family for your loss. She was very special.

Words cannot convey the sadness I feel at hearing of Mrs. Marx's passing. She was one of the most influential teachers in my life, and the reason I minored in Greek literature/studies in college. I still have the laurel wreaths she awarded me after making 100 on my math tests. She made use feel as if we had been standing in an Olympian area when we received our prizes. She was a phenomenal woman and a phenomenal teacher. She loved her job, and she loved the students she taught. Thank you, Marx family, for sharing her with Aiken Elementary and her students. I know that I am a better person and a better teacher because of your mother.
Praying for God's peace, guidance, and comfort for you all.

For some people, luck or fate will bring them into contact with an extraordinarily special person. For me, and many of my friends, this occurred in our 3rd grade class. I don't remember much about elementary school, but I remember this class with clarity. I remember where I sat, who was in my class, particular assignments, stories. I remember being enthralled with the heroism of Hercules, with her story about playing hookie from school as a child, her story about meeting Mr. Marx, as she called him. I remember her assigning us to memorize Robert Frost. I remember her wishing us a great weekend for a homework assignment. I sat on the right side of the classroom. I remember having to look up a word in a dictionary in front of the class. i remember learning cursive. Just last month, i was telling my son 4th grade about Mrs. Marx because he was reading about Zeus. He replied, "she must have been an awesome teacher". yes, Awesome is the perfect word. God bless Mrs Marx and her family.

Mrs. Marx was an inspiration to all who knew her - and a dedicated a loving teacher. I still remember being in her class as she read and illustrated Charlotte's Web and many others. Mrs. Marx was such an inspiration to every child who walked through her door at Aiken Elementary. My oldest son, whose name is Marx, had the pleasure of meeting her a few years ago. I told him she was the best teacher I ever had and I only wished he could have the same experience I had in her classroom. She will be truly missed. My condolences to her family and friends.

I had Mrs. Marx in 3rd grade at the old Aiken Elementary now the library. She was my favorite teacher and I, too, remember all the stories - especially when she got locked in her locker. And I even still have my laurel wreath crown in a scrapbook somewhere. You were so fortunate to have such a wonderful mom and grandmom - she really did make a difference in so many lives.

My sympathy goes out to all of the family of Gloria Marx. I along with so many others were blessed to have her at Aiken Elementary in the third grade, for me 1982 to be exact. I posted something about her on facebook today and was overwhelmed with happy tears of wonderful memories that so many of my elementary friends shared. It's amazing how one teacher touched so many lives and still shines on in our hearts today. What a remarkable woman Gloria Marx was in inspiring so many young people. I am going to miss her greatly but know she is smiling down on all of us with more stories to tell when we join her in heaven. My prayers are with all of you during this time of sadness. You were so lucky to have her and Mr. Marx as parents and family.

So sorry to the Family and all for the loss of this sweet/funny/kind/imaginative/giving/smart woman. She was MY ABSOLUTE FAVORITE TEACHER. I told soooo many people about her over the years.I will never forget how much more I learned through her humor, the way she could weave your imagination around stories of mythology and more & the way she made each one of us feel that she really cared for us to learn. She has even been the answer to every "Who was your favorite Teacher" security question! I am SO happy that I finally got to tell her as an adult how much she meant to me and what a positive influence she was on my life when I saw her down the aisle at the Grocery Store late 90's/early 2000's, I think? She looked the same to me with her adorable little grey bob haircut and the kindest eyes. She teared up a little when I told her and gave her a hug.I did, too!; Wish I had tracked her down and done it again recently. Her memory lives on forever through us!

Gloria Marx will live on in the hearts and minds of so many. I was one of those children that she touched at Aiken Elementary so long ago...I will never forget the joy I felt when I found out I had the legendary Mrs. Marx as my 3rd grade teacher, I had no idea what an amazing year I was to have. She made every child that walked through the doors of her classroom believe that learning was an adventure, a journey, something magical. She tapped the imaginations of countless children, that now as adults, have her to thank for so much. The way that she told a story was unmatched, so vivid, so bright. That laugh...it makes me smile to think about it. To all of her family and friends, my heartfelt condolences.

I remember Mrs. Marx as Brian's Mom and until I met her, never realized Mom's could be such fun. Who knew. She was a woman who used her gift of humor to stimulate the minds of her students, children, and her children's friends. She contributed much to many people in Aiken and her vivacious personality will be greatly missed.

Dear Gloria was a treasure to everyone who was fortunate enough to have children in her class at Aiken Elementary. Her students loved her and would come back after graduating from high-school and college just to tell her how much they had loved her as their teacher.
And she was a lovely and stimulating lady with sparkling eyes and gorgeous smile, and who made you feel good just to be talking with her.
We all will miss her and we share your loss. Our prayers are for you to find peace and comfort in your wonderful memories of this sweet and kind lady.
