Nell Morehead McKane passed away on June 21, 2010, in Aiken, SC. Mrs. McKane was preceded in death by her husband Mr. Robert H. McKane, also of Aiken. Mrs. McKane was born December 3, 1914 in Eckman, WV. She was raised in Pulaski County, VA and moved to Charleston, WV, where she met and married Mr. McKane. They moved to Aiken in 1954 for Mr. McKane's employment with the Savannah River Plant. She became an active member of the Aiken community, where she lived until her passing. One of her greatest passions was the game of golf, which she played until a few years ago as a member of the Palmetto Golf Club. Nell was very active in the Women's South Carolina Golf Association. Mrs. McKane also devoted countless hours to volunteering in her community, including many hours with the Aiken County Red Cross Office and at local bloodmobiles. She also enjoyed gardening. "One can never have too many geraniums!" She will be missed by her sister, Ann Morehead, of Mt. Shasta, CA; her son, Joe McKane and his wife Heather McKane, of Oswego, IL; her daughter, Ann McKane of Seattle, WA; her grandson, Michael McKane of Chicago, IL; her granddaughter, Laura Chioldi of Fayetteville, AR; and their mother, Maureen McKane, many nieces and nephews, and countless friends and golfing buddies. The family would like to thank the staff of Cumberland Hills, Pepper Hill, and Regency Hospice. The family will receive friends on Thursday, June 24, 2010 from 6-8pm at George Funeral Home & Cremation Center, 211 Park Ave, SW, Aiken.
