Funeral Services for Mr. Henry Merlyn "Red" Gabriel will be held on Thursday, December 7, 2006 at 1pm at George Funeral Home & Cremation Center, 211 Park Ave. SW Aiken with Rev. Michael Dyar officiating. Interment, with military honors, will take place at Southlawn Cemetery. Memorial donations may be directed to the charity of ones choice. Visitation will be Wednesday evening from 6-8pm at the funeral home. Mr. Gabriel, 85, of Aiken, died Tuesday at Eden Gardens. A son of the late Henry Madison and Betty Irene Sigmon Gabriel, he was born in Sherills Ford, NC and moved to Aiken in 1947. He attended Appalachian State College and lettered in football in 1942. While in college, he was drafted and served in the Army Air Corps, 8th Air Force during WW II. He was retired as a supervisor from Owings Corning Fiberglass where he had worked for 22 years. He is survived by his wife; Margie Howie Gabriel, Aiken, two sons; Thomas Richard "Dickie" Gabriel, Montmorenci and Kenneth Gabriel, Aiken, and a daughter; Betty M. Tollison, Clearwater, SC. He is also survived by four grandchildren; Kristin Bodie, Jason Gabriel, Mitchell Gabriel and Chloe B. Gabriel and two great grandsons.
