Please share a memory of Kari to include in a keepsake book for family and friends.
Kari Nanna Grimstad Brodie passed away on November 7, 2009, in Buda, Texas, following a lengthy illness. Kari was born October 2, 1922, in Astoria, Oregon, the second of four children born to Alfred and Birgit Grimstad. She grew up in Astoria, graduating from high school in 1940, and went on to attend Oregon State University, where she was a member of Alpha Gamma Delta sorority. She later finished her degree at the University of Rhode Island and went on to teach at a number of elementary schools. Kari met the love of her life, Judson Brodie, a Navy flier, in 1943 at a sorority dinner- dance. They were married in Richmond, Virginia, in 1944, and were together for just short of sixty-six years - years that were very active and interesting as Judson made the Navy his career. Together they raised three children and traveled extensively throughout the U.S. and overseas, including a two year tour of duty in Sicily and a trip around the world to celebrate their 50th wedding anniversary. Kari was a member of St. Thaddeus Episcopal Church in Aiken, South Carolina, and was active in the Daughters of the King at St. Thaddeus, including serving as president. Kari was preceded in death by her son Jamie, her mother and father, and brothers Erling and Osborne Grimstad. She is survived by her husband, Judson, of Kyle, Texas; sister Signe Koegel of Bethesda, Maryland; son Judson Brodie Brenda of Edisto Island, South Carolina; and daughter Kari Lecklider Russell of Buda. She is also survived by three grandchildren, Ginny Frick Kelly of Savannah, Georgia; Brendan Brodie Angie of Greer, South Carolina; and Andrew Lecklider Jeannie of Buda, as well as four great grandchildren: Rebecca and Glenn Frick and Deborah and Karen Lecklider. Funeral services will be conducted at St. Thaddeus Episcopal Church, in Aiken, South Carolina, at 3:00 P.M. on Saturday, November 14th, with burial to follow in the church cemetery.
