Obituary of Walter Francis Miller

Funeral services for Mr. Walter Francis Miller will be private. Mr.
Miller, 80, of Aiken, SC, died peacefully in his sleep, Tuesday, morning, March
29, 2005 after a period of declining health.
Born in Pittsburgh, PA, a son of the late Charles and Omisha Smith Miller, he
graduated from the University of Pittsburgh with a Masters in Education. He
retired from Pan American Health Organization in 1986 as a Personnel
Specialist. A World War II Veteran, he proudly served his country in the United
States Army Air Corp. After he was shot down and captured in Germany he
remained a Prisoner of War for nine months and was awarded with a Purple Heart. In addition to being the recipient of the Purple Heart, he also received the Good Conduct Medal, the American Campaign Medal, and the European African Middle Eastern Campaign Medal with two Bronze Service Stars.
He was a member of the EX P.O.W. Association and also Houndslake Country
Club.
He is survived by his wife of twenty-seven years, Joan Cordell Miller, sons,
Rowland Ewing Miller, Somerset, PA and Walter Wade Miller, Pittsburgh, PA; brothers,
Oliver Miller, Birmingham, AL, Howard Miller, Pittsburgh, PA and Kenneth
Miller, Green Valley, AZ; and grandchildren, Christian and Mackenzie Miller. His former wife Jane Ewing Miller predeceased him.
