Obituary of Julia Claire Bryson

AIKEN, SC- Julia Claire Bryson, 80, of Carriage Drive, Aiken, SC, widow of Oscar W. "Dub" Garner and Guy Bryson, entered into rest Wednesday, May, 6, 2015, surrounded by her family and loved ones.
She was born in Ellenton, SC on June 3, 1934 before being transplanted to New Ellenton, but has been a lifetime resident of Aiken County. She was charter member of St Paul United Methodist in New Ellenton, later becoming a member of Millbrook Baptist Church. She graduated from Aiken High School in 1952, then attended and graduated from Winthrop with a degree in Library Science.
She was an active member of the Daughters of the American Revolution and of the Garden Club. She was a Sunday School teacher at St. Paul, and taught 5th grade in New Ellenton. She was formerly librarian at the Medical College of Georgia, USC-Aiken, as well as Kennedy Middle School, retiring as Media Specialist at Aiken High School. She always referred to herself as the "crazy librarian," that way she didn't have to explain herself, she did not believe in a quiet library. She is credited as having the first library (Aiken High) in the Aiken County School District to be fully automated, raising funds by creating the Library Patrons Club.
She is survived by her daughter, Kathleen (Gene) Farris and granddaughter, Julianne Spires of Aiken, sons, Hansford (Lisa) Bland of Newberry, and Jimmie Bland of Aiken. In addition to her children, she is survived by 2 brothers, Denton (Jo) Johnson of Graniteville, and Tillman (Anne) Johnson of Potomac Falls, VA, and her first husband Dr. James L. Bland of Aiken; grandchildren, Julianne Spires, Trey Bland, Tyler Bland, Johnny Garner, Elizabeth Garner, Shelby Winn, Taylor Winn, and Lauren Harron, as well as niece, Beth Trojan and nephews, Richard Johnson, and Chris Johnson, and 3 great-grandchildren.
Funeral services will be held Saturday, May 9, 2015 at 2PM at Millbrook Baptist Church. The Rev. Doctor Chris Masters and Chaplain Myron Ivey will officiate. Interment will follow in St. Paul United Methodist Church Cemetery, New Ellenton.
Visitation will be held this Friday evening, May 8, 2015 from 5 - 7 PM at George's Funeral Home Downtown, Aiken SC.

Pallbearers will be: Trey and Tyler Bland (grandsons), Chris Johnson (nephew), Byron Crytzer, Logan Novak, Jimmy Rowe, and Johnny Garner.
Honorary Pallbearers will be: Christy Johnson, Devan Stewart, Janet Johnson, Ashley Pitts, Javasia Thomas, Stephanie Fishpaw, Keda Miles, and Jason Stallings-Care South Hospice Caregivers, Dr. James L. Bland, and, the Saints Alive Sunday School Class.
