Nancy H Thomas, 84, passed away peacefully in her sleep the morning of September 7, 2010.
A long time resident of Aiken, Nancy was retired from Aiken Regional Medical Centers and Azalea Woods Nursing Home. She was born in Greenville, SC, the daughter of Smith and Sarah Hamrick. She moved to Aiken in 1947 with her husband, Marvin P. Thomas, after graduating from the Columbia Hospital School of Nursing. She ran a "nursery school" on Colleton Ave. for many years before joining the staff at the old Aiken County Hospital in 1963. When the new Aiken Community Hopsital was opened in 1976, she became its Director of Nursing until she retired in 1988. She then joined the staff at Azalea Woods Nursing Home, and remained there until her second retirement in 2005.
She was a lifetime member of Aiken's First Baptist Church, a member of the Barbara Smith Sunday School Class and the Senior Choir.
Survivors include her brother, Paul S. Truesdale, Jr., of Columbia, Cecelia Thomas of Augusta, Nancy John Coggins of Gaffney, SC, Ted Martha Thomas, of Aiken, Jennie Thomas of Aiken, Patricia Bradley Saylor of Evans, GA, Sherry Thomas of Aiken; grandchildren Jennifer Lott Delaney of Aiken, Joseph Balbag of Evans, Ga., Zachary Thompson of Aiken, great-grandchildren Taylor, Tyler and Macie Lott of Aiken, Keiran Balbag of Evans, Ga., long time friend Charles C. Beason, Sr., numerous neices and nephews and host of loving friends.
A memorial service will be held on Saturday, September 18 at 11:00 am at First Baptist Church of Aiken with the Rev. Fred Andrea and Chaplain Robert Huffman officiating. In lieu of flowers, contributions may be made to Aiken's First Baptist Church, 120 Chesterfield St., Aiken, SouthernCare Hospice, 35-A Varden Dr., Aiken or the National Parkinson's Foundation.
