Dear Barbara,
Bernie and I opened our new Blade magazine and were devastated to learn of George's death. We'll be crying over it for a while. We last saw him at a show in NYC when we were still living in Maplewood, NJ and we've been up here in Ghent, ny for 4 years now.
We will always remember both of you dearly but especially i will remember George for his wonderful bear hugs and how his face lit up with a smile when he saw me and never forgot, of course who we were. We do own a number of his knives which we've always cherished and will continue to do so. They will be inherited by a young cousin of ours Bram Frank who is in the Martial Arts Hall of Fame and a knife designer himself living in Florida.
The best story I'll remember about George is when he had that trout and bird knife in the catalogue where it said he would only make it with ivory handles. I asked him if he'd do it for me in bird's eye maple and he asked me, very pointedly what the catalogue said. I told him I knew what the catalogue said but I, wanted it in bird's eye maple. So he took me over to a counter to look at wood blocks and he hand picked the one for my new knife. When I picked it up at the next show it was a dream. He took off money from the price because it wasn't in ivory. Then he immediately, jokingly I'm sure, told me he'd buy it back from me for the money in his pocket which was a lot more than I paid him. i wouldn't part with this knife for all the money in the US Treasury. I love it as the piece of artwork it is and always will.
Bernie and I send our deepest and warmest sympathy and heartfelt condolences to you and yours on this terribly sad occasion. We're sorry that we were unaware of it earlier. Our only hope is that he did not suffer too long. He was so good and died much too young.
So sorry.
Love,
Marlene and Bernie Vidibor

My deepest sympathies for your loss. I had the privilege to know George and hunt with him and Dan Clayton when I worked at the bomb plant in the 1960s. George was a great American and one of my heroes. I found it amazing that George could only shoot the male quail on a covey rise. He made a custom 1911 0.45 pistol for me and I still shoot it every week at the range. The pistol reminds me of the good times we had in Aiken and George's great skill as a gunsmith. He came to Dallas for a Knife show and I saw him again -- what a class act he was.
Regards,
Max

Mrs. Barbara,I was so very sorry to hear of Mr. George's passing...My thoughts and prayers are with you...especially thursdaytoday...and remember today is "beautemus" day which seems only fitting as I am sure Mr. George will always be able to "see" what a beautiful lady you are! You surely did every thing you could to take care of him! To my regret, I only got to meet Mr. George once since I have been at the "Giant Pharmacy" but from everything I hear he had to have been a fine, fine man! We will miss visiting with you and forever be greatful for the time you shared with us.

Mrs Barbara, Words cannot describe how I feel. Hr. Herron was like a Father to me and he taught me more about life and people than he ever taught me about knives. I am a much better person for knowing the both of you. Brenda and I both enjoyed your friendship, hospitality and great conversation during our many visits to your home and the shows that we attended. He has left a legacy that will last for many years to come. He may be gone, but he will never be forgotten.

Mrs. Barbara,
I am so sorry to hear of Mr. George's death. John and I truly loved spending time with him at the NCCKG meetings. When I heard the news today all I could think about was John and George giving the angel Michael lessons on how to sharpen his sword.
He will be greatly missed both as a friend and as a great man in the knife community.
