A memorial service for Dr. Joseph Phillips will be held Friday, February 18, 2005 at 11 AM at the First Presbyterian Church, Aiken, SC. Dr. Phillips, 88, of Aiken, SC, died Tuesday, afternoon, February 15, 2005 at Mattie C. Hall Health Care Center, Aiken, SC. Born in Brownsville Township, PA, he was a son of the late John and Elizabeth Cerny Phillips. A World War Veteran, he proudly served his country in the United States Army where he obtained the rank of Captain and was awarded the Bronze Star Medal. Dr. Phillips came to Aiken, SC in 1977 after retiring as Superintendent of the Nyack Public School System. Nyack, NY. He was a member of the First Presbyterian Church, Aiken, SC. He is survive by his wife of fifty-nine years, Naomi Edwards Phillips, daughters, Marianne Phillips, Burlington, VT and Lisa Phillips, Washington, D.C.; sister, Jenny Keller, Aiken, SC; granddaughter, Jenny Evjen, Duluth, MN; and great grandsons, Ethan and Aaron Evjen.
