A celebration of life service for Mr. Lionel Judson Halcomb will take place on Saturday March 3, 2012 at 2pm in the chapel of George Funeral Home & Cremation Center, 211 Park Ave. SW Aiken. Memorial donations may be directed to The American Heart Association, 4217 Park Place Ct. Glen Allen, VA 23060.
Mr. Halcomb, 69, of Aiken, died February 9, 2012 at Select Specialty Hospital in Augusta.
A son of the late Clements L. Halcomb and Hortense Baughn Halcomb, he was born in Eldridge, AL and had lived in Warrenton, VA before moving to Aiken twelve years ago.
Lionel was an "IBMer", starting with the company as a technical illustrator in Huntsville, AL in 1966. While working for IBM, he became an Auxiliary member of the Alabama State Patrol, thus sparking the remainder of his career in security. He transferred to IBM's offices in Manassas, VA where he served as Site Security Manager until retiring in 1996. He then continued on in the same capacity with Lockheed Martin until his final retirement in 1999.
Outside of work, Lionel lived trying to grow the "perfect tomato" and trying the newest restaurant in town. He was a life long fan of Alabama football…"Roll Tide". An avid golfer, he was a member of the Aiken Golf Club where he enjoyed the camaraderie of the sport.
He is survived by his wife of thirty-three years, Kathleen Riston Halcomb, Aiken; two sons, Judd Halcomb, TN and Chris Halcomb, AL; a daughter, Becky Cobb, AL; a step-son, Lynn Orrison, NC; two brothers, Roger Halcomb, and Larry Halcomb; a sister, Karen Sanders, and an Aunt, Marie Parrish, all of Alabama. He is also survived by seven grandchildren and several nieces and nephews.
