A funeral Mass for Mrs. Catharine McCall Connaghan will be celebrated on Saturday, July 25, 2009 at 1:00pm at St. Mary Help of Christians Catholic Church. Interment will follow at Calvary Cemetery, Aiken. Mrs. Connaghan, 97, of Aiken, SC died Saturday, July 4, 2009 at Trinity Lutheran Home, Aiken. The daughter of the late William A. McCall and Anne Lynch McCall, she was born in Shamokin, PA in 1911 and had lived in Mt. Carmel, PA until moving to Aiken in 1999. She had worked as a bookkeeper for the family business, Connaghan Wholesale Confectionary and had also been a bank teller at First National Bank, both in Mt. Carmel. She had been an active member of Our Lady of Mt. Carmel Church in Mt. Carmel and a Third Order Carmelite for over fifty-six years. She was recognized as the Catholic Woman of The Year for the Diocese of Harrisburg in 1955. She was a communicant of St. Mary Help of Christians Catholic Church, Aiken. In addition to her parents, she was predeceased by her husband, Thomas E. Connaghan, Sr. and a brother, William A. McCall.. She is survived by two daughters; Anne Connaghan McNally Dr. William, of Aiken and Kathleen P. Connaghan, of Tustin, CA, and a son; Thomas E. Connaghan, Jr. Joan of Palos Verdes, CA. She is also survived by eight grandchildren and eighteen great grandchildren.
