Dr. Sheehan, 67, of Aiken, died Monday, July 19, 2010 at Aiken Regional Medical Centers after sudden complications resulting from her 30 year battle with Rheumatoid Arthritis.
A life-long advocate of caring and learning, Dr. Sheehan served as a teacher, mentor, and administrator in Aiken County for over 35 years. After obtaining her high school diploma from the prestigious Hunter College High School in New York, she went on to earn a B.A. in Languages from the City College of New York, a Master's Degree in Education from the University of South Carolina, and an Ed.D. from South Carolina State University. During her tenure as Aiken County's Staff Development coordinator, Dr. Sheehan trained numerous teachers and administrators across the county, which allowed her to impact the professional and personal lives of many. Over the course of her nine years as principal of Oakwood Windsor, she consistently demonstrated her compassion, dedication, and commitment to both her students and colleagues. Alice instilled in all her loved ones her tireless work ethic, her positive approach to life, and her compassionate service to others. Above all, she cherished her time with her husband, children, and grandchildren. Just before her death, Alice and her entire family returned from their annual trip to Edisto Beach. This very special week will serve her family as a comforting memory for the rest of their lives.
She was predeceased by her parents, Thomas and Evelyn Santomauro; a sister, Evelyn Searfoss; and an uncle, Samuel Santomauro.
