Obituary of Pio Vincent Bardi

Pio Vincent Bardi died Friday, July 13, 2007 of complications from several illnesses. He was 85 years old, and he had lived in Aiken for the past 55 years.
A native of Philadelphia, PA Mr. Bardi was the son of the late Arnaldo and Santi Cinalli Bardi. He graduated from Northeast High School and he attended Drexel University, both in Philadelphia.
During World War II Mr. Bardi served as a pilot in the U.S. Navy. As a naval aviator Mr. Bardi flew with "NATS" Naval Air Transport Service, serving in the U.S. as well as in the African and the Pacific Theaters of Operation. He once again served his country in this capacity during the Korean Conflict.
It was while flying with squadron VRI that he met his future wife, Carolyn, who was serving on active duty as a "WAVE" in the capacity of a U.S. Naval Flight Stewardess in squadron VRI.
After the war Mr. Bardi was a commercial airline pilot with Capitol Airlines, being stationed at National Airport in Washington, D.C. He left Capitol to become a Special Agent for the Federal Bureau of Investigation. After serving two years with the FBI, Mr. Bardi came with his family to Aiken in 1952, and he began his career with E.I. DuPont de Nemours & Co. He retired from DuPont as an area supervisor in 1982. Mr. Bardi served as public relations chairman for both the Aiken County United Fund and the Boy Scouts of America in Aiken County during his career with DuPont.
In addition to his parents, he was predeceased by his wife Carolyn E. Bardi, sister, Augusta Stein, brothers, Pasco Bardi, and Peter Bardi. He is survived by his two sons, Michael P. Bardi of Aiken and Dr Christopher T. Bardi of Florence, SC; three grandchildren; one great grandchild; and an uncle and two aunts living in Philadelphia.
A Funeral Mass will be celebrated on Tuesday, July 17, 2007 at 11am at St. Mary Help of Christians Catholic Church, Aiken. Interment will follow in Calvary Cemetery.
