Obituary of Constance Vivolo

Constance C. "Connie" Vivolo, 67, of Aiken, entered into rest at her residence on Tuesday December 16, 2008 after a brave and valiant fight with ovarian cancer. A Memorial gathering will be held on Monday, February 16, 2009 from 4-6pm at the Aiken Historical Museum, 433 Newberry St. SW Aiken.
Connie was born in Chelsea, MA and resided in Medford and Stoneham, MA. She had a fulfilling 40- year career with American Airlines. She began as a flight attendant and advanced to Base Manager of Flight Services in Boston, MA, Nashville, TN, San Jose, CA and culminated her career at company headquarters in Dallas, TX in Human Resources. Connie was also a longtime member of the American Airlines Kiwi Club. She and her husband retired to Aiken, SC in 2002.
Upon her retirement Connie volunteered her time within the community. Her involvements included: Aiken Historical Museum, Aiken Arts Center, Aiken Regional Medical Center Auxiliary, and the Aiken County Assessor's Office. Her affiliations included: past President of Aiken Newcomers & Antique Club, Secretary for Town and Country & Antique Club and the Cedar Creek Ladies Club. She was instrumental in starting Cedar Creek's first Mah Jongg Club and the Cedar Creek Red Mad Hatters in which she was its' Queen Mum. In the true spirit of volunteerism and because only management personnel were permitted to ferry troops to a war zone, Connie volunteered to help fly the troops to Saudi Arabia during the first Gulf War. When the brief war ended, she vowed to help bring the troops home. In total, Connie completed 17 Civilian Reserve Air Force CRAF missions to and from the Gulf. Connie was also a devoted communicant of Saint Mary's Help of Christians Catholic Church, Aiken.
Connie was predeceased by her parents Anthony and Concetta Pietropaolo and sister Rose Bartolo. She is survived by her loving husband of 45 years, Leonard, a sister; Jennie Galante, Arlington, MA, mother in law; Anne Vivolo, Boston, MA, 10 nieces and nephews, and 10 grand nieces and nephews.
