Please share a memory of William to include in a keepsake book for family and friends.
Mr William "Bill" Ronald Whaley, 65, of Aiken, died Thursday, December 27 after a short illness. GEORGE FUNERAL HOME & CREMATION CENTER, Aiken, is assisting the family. This true southern boy graduated high school in Brookhaven, Mississippi. After one year of college, it was suggested, by his father, that he join the Marine Corps. While in the Marine Corps, he met Cindy and after a fairy tale short romance, they married in 1968 and eight days later, he left for Viet Nam. A son of the late Wilbur Frederick Whaley and Mrs. Gracealine Porter Whaley, he was born in Jackson, MS and had lived in Southern California and Batavia, IL before moving to Aiken in 2003. He was a member of St. John United Methodist Church, Aiken and was an avid golfer. After 3 years in the service, he started his career in computer technology. Immersing himself in a job he loved, he stayed 32 years with Teledyne in California before heading to Unitrin's corporate headquarters in Chicago. In 2006, at the age of 59, he retired as their CIO/VP. Extensive travel while young and still working proved fortunate for Bill. Upon settling in Aiken, "traveling" then became waking up every morning with a smile, reading the paper and drinking coffee on his sun porch. He is survived by his wife, Cynthia Whaley, Aiken; a daughter, Amy Louise Whaley, Vista, CA; his mother, Gracealine Whaley, Aiken; a brother, Mark Whaley, Lincoln, NE; a sister Lynn Littlejohn, Canton, NC; two nephews, Benton Whaley and Michael Littlejohn and a niece, Catron Whaley. A memorial service for Bill will take place on Monday, January 7, 2013, on what would have been his 66th birthday at 11am at St. John United Methodist Church, Aiken. Interment will take place at a later date at Ft. Jackson National Cemetery. Honorary pallbearers will be members of "The Law Firm".
