Graveside services for Margaret Watson Mathis, 85, of Aiken, will be held at 3 p.m. Saturday, May 23, 2015 at Southlawn Cemetery. Officiating will be her grandson, Hamilton Mathis. The family will receive friends from 1-2:30 Saturday at the Historic GEORGE FUNERAL HOME. Memorial donations may be made to Corinth Baptist Church, 805 S. Mrs. Mathis, widow of Walt Mathis, passed away on Wednesday, May 20, 2015. Born in Birmingham, Alabama, she was a daughter of the late Oliver McRae and Marie Compton Watson. Mrs. Mathis was a member of St. John's United Methodist Church. She was a retired Division Sales Manager with World Book Encyclopedia and Gum Drop Books. In her spare time she loved spending time with family and traveling. Mrs. Mathis was a loving wife, mother, grandmother and friend. In addition to her husband and parents, she was preceded in death by 4 brothers. Survivors include her daughter, Beth Glover (Don) of Aiken; a son, Mark Mathis (Teresa) of Aiken; 5 grandchildren, Matthew Glover (Heather) of Aiken, Jonathan Glover (Nichole) of Ft. Drum, NY, Grayson Mathis (Rebekah), Hamilton Mathis, and Laura Glover, all of Aiken and 5 great-grandchildren, Wyatt Glover, Jase Brown, Liam Glover, Amelia Glover and Joanna Glover.
