A Memorial Service for Mr. William Jennings Woodward will take place on Tuesday, November 25, 2008 at 4pm at George Funeral Home and Cremation Center, 211 Park Ave. SW Aiken, with Rev. Michael Dyar officiating. Burial will be private. The family will receive friends at the funeral home Monday November 24, 2008 from 6-8pm. Memorial donations may be directed to The American Heart Asc. 520 Gervais St. Suite 300, Columbia SC 29201, or to The American Cancer Society, 128 Stonemark Lane, Columbia SC. 29210.
Mr. Woodward, 82, of Aiken died Friday November 21, 2008 at the Aiken Regional Medical Centers. He was born in Bamberg County, SC. A son of the late William Jennings Woodward, Sr. and the late Esther Mae Folk Woodward. He graduated from the Williston-Elko High School in 1942, served in the Army Air Corp from 1944-1945. He was first married to Lida Mae Willis in 1951. He received his Bachelors Degree in Electrical Engineering from USC in 1952 then worked for the SRP Lab for 42 years retiring in 1994. He remained active in the Civil Air Patrol for many years. He worked in Radio with WAKN in Aiken in many formats including his love for announcing Aiken High School Football.
Mr. Woodward was, in addition to his parents, predeceased by a son Tony Floyd., and his second wife Lynette Woodward. He is survived by four children Kevin Woodward, Columbia, KarenChuckFann, Memphis TN, Sherrie JeffJohnson, Aiken SC, and Denise Edgar , Honeapath SC, two sisters FayeJames Bessinger, Lake City FL, and CarolynGeraldRoberts, Greensboro NC. Nine grandchildren and thirteen great grandchildren. . He is also survived by his dear friend Ms. Jean Hensley.
