AIKEN, SC - Robert Lawrence Malloy, age 80, was called home by God on Wednesday, January 11, 2017, at his residence.
Mr. Malloy was born August 13, 1936 in Duquesne, PA to the late Dr. Francis B. Malloy and the late Margaret H. Malloy. He received a Bachelor of Science degree in Metallurgical Engineering from the University of Pittsburgh in 1958. Mr. Malloy began his career with Westinghouse in 1961in Large, PA where he worked in the Astronuclear Laboratory on the NERVA Rocket. His career also took him to Jacksonville, FL where he worked on a floating nuclear plant and to the EMAD fuel storage facility at the Nevada Test Site. Additionally, he worked at the O'Connor Combustor facility in Fullerton, CA where they converted trash into fuel and he was part of the Westinghouse Transition Team as the Site Quality Assurance Manager at the Savannah River Site.
Mr. Malloy was a life-long Catholic and was totally devoted to his family. He was an avid golfer at Woodside Plantation Country Club and a die-hard Pittsburgh Steelers fan. Mr. Malloy dearly loved his family and grandchildren, to whom he will always be remembered as "PapPap."
His family members include his wife of 31 years, Rita B. Malloy; children, Donna Malloy Lawson (Karl), Diane Malloy Hayhurst (Don Hayhurst, deceased); Robert B. Malloy (Tracy), Kerry Malloy Cross (Robert); 15 grandchildren, Turner, Hayleigh, Hannah, Connor, Logan, Taylor, Abby, Madison, Lindsey, Sydney, Keirra, Maggie, Damien, Sahelia, and Isnala; a brother, Francis B. Malloy, deceased (Helen Jubak Malloy); two sisters, Rosemary Donna Bryan, deceased (Conrad Bryan) and Margaret Ann Malloy Amatangelo (Vincent ); nieces and nephews, Kathleen, John, Robert, Mark, Danielle, Conrad, Karen (deceased), Sandra, Laura, Valerie, Gina, and Julie.
A prayer service will be held 6:30 PM Sunday, January 15, 2017 with visitation following until 8:00 PM at George Funeral Home.
A Requiem Mass will be celebrated 11:00 AM Monday, January 16, 2017 at the old historic St. Mary Help of Christians Catholic Church, Park Ave., with Father Renaurd West as celebrant. A reception will follow at Woodside Plantation Country Club.
