Obituary of William C. Marx
Please share a memory of William to include in a keepsake book for family and friends.
William C. Bill Marx passed away at the Aiken Regional Medical Centers on May 2, 2011 at the age of 65 due to complications from leukemia. Born December 13, 1945 in Trenton, New Jersey, he was the son of Edmund W. and Gloria C. Marx of Aiken, SC and the brother of Marilyn M. Kogan Robert of Aiken, Christina M. Hampton of Olive Branch, MS, and Brian L. Marx Lisa of Baltimore, MD.
Mr. Marx attended the University of Notre Dame in South Bend, IN where he was on a Navy ROTC scholarship. After his graduation in 1967, Bill attended the Navy's Officer Candidacy School followed by flight school in Pensacola FL. His Navy tour of duty ended in 1972 at which time Mr. Marx, in short order, married the former Loretta Perkins of Virginia Beach, VA and entered the MBA program at the Wharton School of the University of Pennsylvania.
After working in the international banking industry for a number of years, Mr. Marx was a real estate agent in Virginia Beach, VA and, most recently, worked for Wyndham Properties in Newport, RI.
Bill Marx will be remembered by many as an individual with a great sense of humor and a sharp intellect, and who was in possession of a large base of knowledge on a broad range of topics. In addition to his family and many amused friends, he leaves behind an endless number of completed New York Times crossword puzzles, defeated Scrabble opponents, and confounded Bridge players. His life was also marked by his deep appreciation of certain music. As an example, he was one of the original devotees of The Rolling Stones - at the height of Beatlemania. He could instantly name his favorite ten songs but almost as quickly, he could name his ten least favorite. His most loved music genre, perhaps ironically, was 70's Disco.
Bill Marx will be missed by everyone who knew him.
He is survived by his two children, Stephen Marx Kara of Portland, OR and Jessica Marx of Homer, AK and his two grandchildren, Stella and Ava Marx.
A private graveside service with will be held in June. In lieu of flowers, memorial donations may be directed to The American Leukemia and Lymphoma Society, 107 Westpark Blvd. Suite 107, Columbia, SC 29210 803-731-4060
