Mr. Owen G. ?Hap? Davis, 80 died on January 29, 2011, at Cumberland Village following a courageous battle with cancer.
The funeral will be held on Thursday, February 3, 2011 at 2pm at St. Thaddeus Episcopal Church, Aiken, SC, with the Rev. Joseph Whitehurst officiating. Burial will be in the church cemetery.
A native of Western New York State, Mr. Davis was the son of the late George W. and Ethel R. Davis. He was a 1947 graduate of Lockport High School and 1951 graduate of Hobart College. During the Korean War he served in the United States Army as a First Lt, ARMOR. During his career with Scott Paper Company as a Human Resource Director, Mr. Davis was active in community and professional organizations including the Chamber of Commerce, United Way, Kiwanis Club, and the Human Resources Management Association. He retired in 1987 and moved to the Landings at Skidaway Island in Savannah, Ga. Where he established a Human Resource Consulting Practice. In Savannah he was a member of St. Thomas Episcopal Church, The Landings Club and served on the Board of the Savannah Economic Development Authority. He moved to Aiken, South Carolina in 1997 and was an active member of St. Thaddeus Episcopal Church, The Woodside Plantation Country Club, Aiken Symphony Guild, Fifty Pulse Club, South Carolina Historical Society, and Aiken County Historical Society and worked as a volunteer docent with the Aiken County Historical Museum.
He was preceded in death by his loving wife of fifty five years, Carole Jane Carner Davis. Surviving are his daughter, Darylann Rodney Thomas, Athens, Ga., Three sons; Dudley Owen Lisa Davis, Mobile, Alabama; Braden Carner Debbie Davis, Charles City, Virginia; Marshall Reed Michelle Davis, Fairhope, Alabama and nine grandchildren.
In lieu of flowers, memorials may be made to the American Cancer Society or to St. Thaddeus Episcopal Church, Aiken, South Carolina.
