Funeral services for Alma Ree Merritt Williams, 89, of Aiken, will be held at 1 p.m. Thursday, January 10, 2013 at the Chapel of GEORGE FUNERAL HOME & CREMATION CENTER. Officiating will be Rev. Bruce C. Fox. Burial will follow at Sunset Memorial Gardens. The family will receive friends from 5:30 - 7:30 p.m. Wednesday at the funeral home and at other times at the residence of Ruth & Billy Storey. Mrs. Williams, widow of James Carlos Williams, Jr., passed away on Monday, January 7, 2013. Born in Sandersville, Georgia, she was a daughter of the late James Thomas and Florence Ellen Johnson Merritt. She was a member of South Aiken Church of God and a member of the Golden Circle Club. Mrs. Williams was a loving wife, mother, grandmother and friend. She was preceded in death by her son, Eddie Dean Williams; brothers, John & Allen Merritt; sisters, Christine Holton, Ruby Lindsey, Mary Agnes Williams, Annie Bert Simpson, Lousie Darby and Lessie B. Bush; and two grandsons, JR Williams, Jr., and Kevin Michael Jeffcoat. Surviving are her sons, JR Williams, SR. Brenda of Aiken and James Thomas Williams of N. Augusta; daughters, Ruth W. Storey Billy of Aiken and Rachel Jeffcoat Michael of W. Columbia; sisters, Oneida Hughes of Gainsville, Florida, Ellene Simpson of Graniteville, Lois Wren of Milledgeville, Georgia, Janice Alred of Griffin, Georgia and Clyde Batchelor of Milledgeville, Georgia; grandchildren, Henry Lawrence Wright, Jr., Bettie Ann Williams, James A. Williams, Delilah E. Williams, Jessica Ree Williams, Lisa K. Glenn, Christopher J. Wise, Benjamin Brian Jeffcoat and Kenneth Ray Jeffcoat; 21 great-grandchildren and 2 great-great-grandchildren.
