Obituary of Jamie S. Brodie

Jamie S. Brodie, MSN, RN, FPN, age 52 passed on to eternal life on Monday, November 15, 2004, in Tucson, AZ. He was born on October 31, 1952 to Judson M. Brodie, Jr. and Kari Ramstad Brodie at Quansett Point, RI. He received a BS in Nursing from the University of South Carolina in 1975, a Masters of Science in Nursing from Vanderbilt in 1978 and was currently a Doctoral Candidate in the University of Arizona School of Nursing. He was a certified Adult Nurse Practitioner as well as a Certified Correctional Health Professional.
At the time of his death, his was an Assistant Professor of Nursing at Vanderbilt University and served on the International Association of Forensic Nurses Curriculum task Force for development of national standards for Masters Programs in Forensic Nursing. During his career he served as Director of Health Services for the State of Tennessee Department of Corrections in Nashville, TN. He spent five years at King Faisal Specialist Hospital and Research Center, Riyadh, Saudi Arabia serving as Head Nurse of Medical Clinics, Assistant Director of Nursing ? Outpatient and Deputy Director of Nursing Operations. Following his five years in Saudi Arabia, he was instrumental in starting the Rome American Hospital with Health Corporation of America in Rome Italy. During his eight years in Rome, he served first as Director of Nursing Services and then as Chief Operating Officer .
He returned to the United States in 1996 and first worked with Choice Behavoral Health Partnership in Nashville, Tn . In 1999, he became an Assistant Professor of Nursing, Correctional Health and Adult Nurse Practioner Program at Vanderbilt University. He is published in a number of Health Care Publications and has made numerous presentations on Nursing and Correctional Health Nursing.
He is survived by his parents, Judson M. Brodie, Jr. and Kari G. Brodie, of Kyle, TX, a brother, Judson M. Brodie, III Brenda of Columbia, SC, a sister, Kari B. Lecklider Russell of Buda, TX , two nephews, Brendan M. Brodie Angie of Greenville, SC; Andrew E. Lecklider, of Kyle, TX and three nieces, Virginia B. Frick Kelly, Diane B. Nape Steven and Elizabeth L. Schaufler Jamie and six great nieces and nephews.
A celebration of Jamie?s life will be held at St. Thadeaus Episcopal Church in Aiken SC on Saturday, November 20th at 2:00 P.M. with burial in the church cemetery. His nephews will serve as honorary pallbearers. The family will receive friends at the home of his brother, Judson M. Brodie at 5914 Martha?s Glen Road, Columbia SC following the service on Saturday evening.
A memorial service will be held at one of the chapels of Vanderbilt University in Nashville, Tn after the Thanksgiving holiday. The family request that in lieu of flowers, donations be made to Nashville Cares, 209 10th Avenue South, Cumins Station, Suite 160, Nashville, TN 37203.
