Obituary of Neal R. Donovan

A Funeral Liturgy for Mr. Neal Donovan, Sr. will be celebrated at 10am on Thursday, August 4, 2005 at St. Mary Help of Christians Catholic Church. Pallbearers will be his brother Knights of Columbus. Interment, with military honors will follow at Sunset Memorial Gardens. Visitation will be this evening, from 6-8pm at George Funeral Homes Historic Downtown Chapel 211 Park Ave. SW Aiken.
Mr. Donovan, 81, of Aiken, died Monday, August 1, 2005 at Aiken Regional Medical Centers. A son of the late Cornelius and Mildred Girvan Donovan, he was born in Utica, NY where he lived before moving to Aiken in 1952.
He was a communicant of St. Mary Help of Christians Church and was a Past Grand Knight of Knights of Columbus Council #3684 and a Sir Knight of Knights of Columbus Assembly #1074, Aiken.
Neal served in the United States Army Air Corps with the 58th Bomber Wing, during WW II. He retired from DuPont at the Savannah River Site in 1984 where he was a supervisor in the purchasing department. He was a volunteer with ACTS Aiken Churches Together Serving and was an avid golfer and bowler.
He is survived by his wife, Lessie Hedgepath Donovan, Aiken, 11 children; Patti Joseph Cordina, Parker, TX, Pamela Bo Hawkins, Barnwell, SC, Nancy John Longnecker, Thornton, CO, Janet Bobby Jones, Mocksville, NC, Neal Rose Donovan, Aiken, Cathy Britt Burbury, Aiken, Carol Richard Hayes, New Ellenton, SC, Tim Lee Donovan, Lexington, SC, Johnny Jenny Carr, Augusta, GA, Jimmy Vicki Carr, Charlotte, NC and Dolly Ron Carr, Tuba City. AZ, 5 sisters; Betty Porter and Alice Gleason, both of Venice, FL, and Mary Schmitt, Carol Christensen and Doreen Blackburn, all of Kennewick, WA. He is also survived by 30 grandchildren and 9 great grandchildren.
