Graveside funeral services for Mrs. Barbara Hennelly Barta will be held on Sunday, March 1, 2009 at 1:30 at Calvary Cemetery, 1255 University Lane, Aiken. A reception will follow at the Green Boundary Club, 780 Whiskey Rd. from 2-5pm. All friends of the Hennellys and their children are invited. George Funeral Home & Cremation Center is assisting the Hennelly family. Barbara Hennelly Barta, 85, of Roswell, GA, died peacefully in her sleep on Wednesday, February 19, 2009 at St. George Village Retirement Community in Roswell. Born in Brooklyn, NY in 1923, Barbara graduated with a BA in Psychology from the College of New Rochelle in New Rochelle, New York. She was an airline stewardess for Eastern Airlines before marrying Edward Joseph Hennelly on June 29, 1946. Long-time residents of Aiken, SC, Barbara and Ed raised five children and were parishioners at St. Mary's Help of Christians Church, where Barbara was active in the Legion of Mary in her early years in Aiken. In the 1970's, she and two friends opened La Martingale Restaurant, specializing in French cuisines and fine wines. An avid antiques enthusiast, Barbara spent endless hours finding and refinishing furniture for the restaurant. After the death of Edward Hennelly, Barbara moved to Roswell, GA to be near two of her children and became a member of St. Brigid Catholic Church in John's Creek GA. She married William Barta in 2005. She is survived by her husband; Bill Barta, Roswell, GA, three daughters: Markie Burke, Bernardsville, NJ, Carroll Flynn, Roswell, GA, and Babs Kothe, Dunbarton, NH; and two sons: Mike Hennelly, Charlotte, NC, and Tom Hennelly, Roswell, GA. She is also survived by a sister-in-law, Betty Sheahan, Jupiter, FL. Her eleven grandchildren range in age from 36 to 8 and include 5 grandsons and 6 granddaughters. Her first great-grandchild is due in early March. In lieu of flowers, memorial donations can be made to the Alzheimer's Association http://www.alzfdn.org/
